Heavy Quark Interactions and Quarkonium Binding
نویسنده
چکیده
We consider heavy quark interactions in quenched and unquenched lattice QCD. In a region just above the deconfinement point, non-Abelian gluon polarization leads to a strong increase in the binding. Comparing quark-antiquark and quark-quark interaction, the dependence of the binding on the separation distance r is found to be the same for the colorless singlet QQ̄ and the colored anti-triplet QQ state. In a potential model description of in-medium J/ψ behavior, this enhancement of the binding leads to a survival up to temperatures of 1.5 Tc or higher; it could also result in J/ψ flow.

Heavy Quarks in the Quark-gluon Plasma
Heavy-flavor particles are believed to provide valuable probes of the medium produced in ultrarelativistic collisions of heavy nuclei. In this article we review recent progress in our understanding of the interactions of charm and bottom quarks in the Quark-Gluon Plasma (QGP). For individual heavy quarks, we focus on elastic interactions for which the large quark mass enables a Brownian motion ...
متن کاملHeavy Quarkonium ∗
I review heavy quarkonium physics in view of recent experimental results. In particular, I discuss new results on spin singlet states, photon and hadronic transitions, D−states and discovery of yet unexplained narrow X(3872) state. 1 Quarkonia Quarkonium is a bound state of a quark and its anti-quark. Some properties of light and heavy quarkonia are compared to properties of positronium in Tabl...
متن کاملString Breaking and Quarkonium Dissociation at Finite Temperatures
Recent lattice studies of string breaking in QCD with dynamical quarks determine the in-medium temperature dependence of the heavy quark potential. Comparing this to the binding energies of different quarkonium states, we check if these can decay into open charm/beauty in a confined hadronic medium. Our studies indicate in particular that the χc and the ψ ′ dissociate into open charm below the ...
متن کاملSpectra of Baryons Containing Two Heavy Quarks
The spectra of baryons containing two heavy quarks test the form of the QQ potential through the spin-averaged masses and hyperfine splittings. The mass splittings in these spectra are calculated in a nonrelativistic potential model and the effects of varying the potential studied. The simple description in terms of light quark and pointlike diquark is not yet valid for realistic heavy quark ma...
متن کاملGluon fragmentation into heavy quarkonium.
The dominant production mechanism for heavy quark-antiquark bound states in very high energy processes is fragmentation, the splitting of a high energy parton into a quarkonium state and other partons. We show that the fragmentation functions D(z, μ) describing these processes can be calculated using perturbative QCD. We calculate the fragmentation functions for a gluon to split into S-wave qua...
